Description
Veronica spicata ‘Moody Blues’, commonly known as Sky Blue Speedwell, is a striking perennial valued for its vibrant sky-blue flower spikes and long blooming season, typically from late spring through summer. This cultivar is distinguished by its dense, upright flower spikes that attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for pollinator gardens. Native to Europe and western Asia, Veronica spicata has a rich horticultural history as a garden staple prized for its hardiness and adaptability across USDA zones 3-8. ‘Moody Blues’ is noted for its compact growth habit, reaching approximately 12 to 18 inches in height, and its tolerance to drought and poor soil conditions, which makes it suitable for rock gardens, borders, and xeriscaping. The cultivar’s powdery sky-blue flowers contrast beautifully with its medium green foliage, offering a serene color palette that complements a variety of garden designs. Recognized by various horticultural societies for its garden performance and ornamental appeal, ‘Moody Blues’ continues to be a popular choice among gardeners seeking reliable perennial color with minimal maintenance.
