Description
Thuja x ‘Steeplechase’ Arborvitae is a hybrid evergreen prized for its dense, pyramidal form and vibrant, rich green foliage that maintains color year-round, making it an excellent choice for privacy screens and formal hedges. This cultivar is a cross between Thuja occidentalis and Thuja plicata, combining the hardiness and adaptability of both species, allowing it to thrive in a variety of soil types and climates, particularly in USDA zones 3-7. Known for its upright growth habit, ‘Steeplechase’ features a refined texture with soft, scale-like leaves that emit a subtle, pleasant fragrance when brushed. Its moderate growth rate and resistance to common pests and diseases make it a low-maintenance option for landscape use. Developed to offer improved winter hardiness and disease resistance compared to traditional arborvitaes, ‘Steeplechase’ has gained attention among professional landscapers and gardeners seeking a reliable, year-round green screen. While this cultivar has been recognized for its garden performance, it stands out particularly for balancing aesthetic appeal with practical durability across a broad range of planting conditions.
