Description
Taxus x media ‘Moon’, commonly known as Anglojap Yew, is a striking evergreen shrub valued for its dense, upright growth habit and soft, needle-like foliage with a distinctive silvery-blue hue. This hybrid yew, resulting from a cross between Taxus cuspidata (Japanese yew) and Taxus baccata (English yew), was developed to combine the hardiness and adaptability of both parent species, making it particularly well-suited for use in landscapes across temperate regions. Anglojap Yew is prized for its versatility in formal hedges, foundation plantings, and mixed borders, where its slow to moderate growth rate and tolerance of a range of light conditions—from full sun to shade—provide lasting structure and year-round interest. Its fine-textured needles and compact form also contribute to its popularity as a specimen or accent plant. Historically, yews have been cultivated for centuries in Europe and Asia, often associated with longevity and resilience. Taxus x media ‘Moon’ continues this tradition, offering landscape designers a reliable evergreen that balances ornamental appeal with functional use.
