Description
Taxus x media ‘Densiformis’, commonly known as Dense Yew, is a popular evergreen shrub prized for its dense, compact growth habit and rich, dark green needles. This hybrid yew, resulting from a cross between English yew (Taxus baccata) and Japanese yew (Taxus cuspidata), combines the hardiness and adaptability of both parent species, making it an excellent choice for foundation plantings, hedges, and formal gardens. Its slow to moderate growth rate and naturally rounded form require minimal pruning, providing year-round interest with a lush, soft-textured foliage that thrives in partial to full shade and well-drained soils. Dense Yew is valued not only for its ornamental appeal but also for its tolerance of urban pollution and deer resistance. Historically, yews have been cultivated for centuries, revered in many cultures for their longevity and association with sacred spaces. Taxus x media ‘Densiformis’ continues this tradition as a versatile landscape staple, appreciated for its reliability and elegant presence in both residential and commercial landscapes.
