Description
Taxus baccata ‘Stricta Fastigiata’, commonly known as English Yew, is a narrow, columnar evergreen conifer prized for its dense, dark green foliage and elegant upright habit. This cultivar is notable for its fastigiate growth form, which makes it an excellent choice for formal hedges, vertical accents, and foundation plantings in both traditional and contemporary landscapes. Native to Europe, the English Yew has a rich history dating back centuries, valued not only for its ornamental qualities but also for its durable wood traditionally used in longbow making. The plant’s fine-textured needles and red berry-like arils add seasonal interest, though caution is advised as parts of the plant are toxic if ingested. This yew is highly adaptable to various soil conditions, tolerant of shade, and responds well to pruning, making it a versatile and enduring landscape staple. Its refined appearance and resilience have earned it recognition among gardeners and landscape professionals for creating structured, evergreen screens and classic garden designs.
