Description
Rhaphiolepis indica ‘Pink Dancer’, commonly known as Indian Hawthorn, is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its glossy, dark green foliage and clusters of delicate, pale pink flowers that bloom profusely in spring. Native to southern Asia, this variety is especially valued for its heat and drought tolerance, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance landscapes in warm climates. The ‘Pink Dancer’ cultivar features a more refined, rounded growth habit compared to other Indian Hawthorns, reaching approximately 3 to 4 feet in height and width, which lends itself well to foundation plantings, borders, and mass plantings. Its flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, contributing to garden biodiversity. Indian Hawthorns have a rich horticultural history, having been appreciated in Asia for centuries before gaining popularity in the United States in the mid-20th century for their ornamental appeal and adaptability. The ‘Pink Dancer’ cultivar stands out for its consistent performance, resistance to common diseases like leaf spot, and extended bloom period, making it a reliable and attractive landscape shrub.
