Description
Platycladus orientalis ‘Columnaris Aurea’, commonly known as Chinese Arborvitae, is an elegant evergreen conifer prized for its narrow, columnar form and striking golden-yellow foliage that intensifies in winter, adding year-round interest to landscapes. Native to northeastern Asia, particularly China, this cultivar has been selectively bred to offer a vibrant, upright silhouette that fits well in small gardens, formal hedges, or as a vertical accent. Its dense, scale-like leaves emit a subtle, pleasant aroma when crushed, a characteristic trait of the Cupressaceae family. ‘Columnaris Aurea’ is valued for its adaptability to a range of soil types and its moderate drought tolerance once established. This cultivar has been recognized by horticultural societies for its ornamental value, making it a favored choice for both residential and commercial planting schemes seeking structure, texture, and a splash of golden color throughout the seasons.
