Description
Platycladus orientalis ‘Blue Cone’ Arborvitae, commonly known as Oriental Arborvitae, is a striking evergreen conifer valued for its dense, upright growth and unique blue-green foliage that adds year-round color and texture to landscapes. Native to northeastern Asia, this cultivar is appreciated for its adaptability to a variety of soil types and climates, exhibiting notable drought tolerance once established. The ‘Blue Cone’ variety features attractive, scale-like leaves with a distinctive glaucous blue hue that sets it apart from the typical green forms of Platycladus orientalis. Its compact, columnar habit makes it an excellent choice for privacy screens, hedges, or architectural accents in garden design. Historically, Platycladus orientalis has been cultivated for centuries in East Asia, often used in traditional gardens and cultural landscapes. This cultivar has gained recognition for its ornamental appeal and low-maintenance nature, contributing to its popularity among landscapers and gardeners seeking a versatile evergreen with a cool-toned foliage palette.
