Description
Picea pungens ‘Kosteri’, commonly known as Kosteri Blue Spruce, is a striking evergreen conifer celebrated for its dense, pyramidal form and distinctive steel-blue needles that provide year-round color and texture in the landscape. This cultivar is a compact selection of the Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens), native to the central Rocky Mountains of the United States. It was developed for its outstanding blue needle coloration, which is more intense than that of the species, making it a favored choice for ornamental planting in gardens and urban settings. The stiff, sharp needles and strong branch structure also contribute to its use as a windbreak or privacy screen. Picea pungens ‘Kosteri’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, exhibiting excellent adaptability and drought tolerance once established. Its unique blue hue and manageable size have earned it recognition among landscape professionals and gardeners seeking year-round visual interest and structural form.
