Description
Picea pungens ‘Iseli Fastigiate’, commonly known as the ‘Iseli Fastigiate’ Blue Spruce, is a striking cultivar of the Colorado Blue Spruce notable for its narrow, columnar growth habit that makes it an excellent choice for limited spaces or formal landscapes. Originating from selections made in the Pacific Northwest, this cultivar is prized for its dense, upright form and vibrant steel-blue needles that retain their color year-round, adding consistent visual interest to gardens and landscapes. The tree typically grows slower and more compact than the species, reaching heights of 15 to 20 feet with a width of only 3 to 5 feet, making it ideal for use as a vertical accent, screen, or windbreak. Its unique fastigiate shape sets it apart from more common spreading blue spruces, providing a modern architectural element to plantings. The ‘Iseli Fastigiate’ Blue Spruce is also valued for its adaptability to a range of soil types and cold hardiness, thriving in USDA zones 2 through 7. This cultivar has been recognized by various horticultural organizations for its distinctive form and excellent landscape performance.
