Description
Picea pungens ‘Hoopsii’, commonly known as Hoopsii Blue Spruce, is a striking evergreen conifer prized for its exceptional silvery-blue foliage and symmetrical pyramidal form. Originating in the Rocky Mountains of the United States, this cultivar was discovered by John Hoops in the early 20th century and has since become a favored landscape tree for its vibrant color and year-round interest. The needles of Hoopsii Blue Spruce are longer and more densely arranged than typical Colorado blue spruce, lending the tree a fuller, more sculptural appearance. Its tolerance for a range of soil types and resistance to common pests like spruce needle cast make it a durable choice for both residential and commercial landscapes. Valued for its ornamental beauty, the Hoopsii Blue Spruce is often used as a specimen tree, in windbreaks, or for holiday decorations, reflecting its versatility and distinctive aesthetic appeal.
