Description
Picea pungens ‘Glauca Prostrata,’ commonly known as Glauca Prostrata Blue Spruce, is a distinctive dwarf conifer prized for its striking silvery-blue needles and low, spreading growth habit. Originating as a naturally occurring variant of the Colorado blue spruce, this cultivar forms a dense, prostrate mound that typically reaches only 1 to 2 feet in height while spreading widely, making it an excellent groundcover or accent plant in rock gardens and landscapes. Its stiff, sharply pointed needles retain their vibrant blue color year-round, providing strong winter interest and contrast against other foliage. Known for its slow growth and hardy nature, ‘Glauca Prostrata’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, demonstrating excellent tolerance to cold climates and drought once established. This cultivar’s unique combination of durability and ornamental appeal has made it a favorite among landscape designers and gardeners seeking evergreen texture with a compact form.
