Description
Picea abies ‘Little Gem,’ commonly known as Dwarf Norway Spruce, is a compact, slow-growing evergreen prized for its dense, bright green needles and conical form. Originating as a naturally occurring dwarf sport of the traditional Norway Spruce native to Northern Europe, ‘Little Gem’ has become a popular choice for small gardens, rockeries, and foundation plantings due to its manageable size, typically reaching 3 to 5 feet in height and width over many years. Its tightly packed branches and vibrant foliage provide year-round visual interest, making it an excellent specimen for landscape designs that require evergreen structure without overwhelming space. The cultivar is also valued for its hardiness, tolerating a range of soil types and environmental conditions, including cold winters and partial shade. Its unique combination of slow growth and attractive form has earned it recognition among landscapers and gardeners seeking durable, low-maintenance evergreens for smaller settings.
