Renowned for its striking variegated foliage, this perennial grass features long, ribbon-like leaves striped with vibrant shades of green and creamy white, adding bold texture and movement to garden landscapes. Ribbon Grass thrives in a variety of conditions, particularly favoring moist, well-drained soils, and is often used for ground cover, erosion control, or as an accent in borders and containers. Its vigorous rhizomatous growth habit allows it to spread quickly, making it both a versatile and sometimes aggressive plant to manage. Historically valued for its utility in weaving and basketry, Phalaris arundinacea combines aesthetic appeal with ecological benefits, such as providing habitat and stabilizing soil. This plant is appreciated in garden design for its dynamic foliage and adaptability across USDA hardiness zones.
