Description
Pennisetum orientale ‘Shogun’, commonly known as Shogun Oriental Fountain Grass, is a striking ornamental grass valued for its graceful, arching foliage and airy, plume-like flower spikes that emerge in late summer. This cultivar is notable for its variegated leaves, which display a vibrant combination of green and yellow stripes, adding dynamic color and texture to garden landscapes. Native to East Asia, Pennisetum orientale has been appreciated for centuries in traditional Asian gardens for its elegant form and adaptability. ‘Shogun’ enhances that heritage with its compact size and exceptional ornamental appeal, thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils. This grass is drought tolerant once established and provides excellent movement and sound in the breeze, making it a popular choice for mixed perennial borders and naturalistic plantings. Its unique variegation and plume display have earned it recognition in ornamental horticulture circles for adding year-round interest and low-maintenance beauty to landscapes.
