Description
Pennisetum glaucum ‘Purple Majesty’ Ornamental Millet is a striking annual grass prized for its deep purple foliage and tall, graceful plumes that add vibrant color and texture to garden landscapes. Originating from Pearl Millet, a staple cereal grain cultivated for thousands of years in Africa and Asia, this ornamental variety has been selectively bred for its dramatic burgundy-purple leaves and showy flower spikes that can reach up to 5 feet tall. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and mass plantings where it provides vertical interest and a bold contrast to green foliage plants. ‘Purple Majesty’ is valued not only for its ornamental beauty but also for its drought tolerance and ease of care, making it a favorite in summer and fall garden designs. Its unique coloration and stature have earned it recognition among landscape professionals and gardeners seeking to create dynamic, colorful outdoor spaces.
