Description
Ophiopogon jaburan ‘Vittatus’, commonly known as Giant Striped Mondo Grass, is a distinctive evergreen groundcover prized for its bold variegated foliage. Originating from East Asia, this cultivar features broad, arching leaves with striking white stripes running lengthwise, creating a dramatic contrast against the deep green backdrop. Unlike the traditional Mondo Grass varieties, ‘Vittatus’ grows taller and wider—reaching up to 18 inches in height—making it an excellent choice for adding texture and visual interest in shade gardens, borders, or mass plantings. Its slow growth habit and tolerance for a range of soil types and light conditions, from full shade to partial sun, contribute to its versatility in landscape design. The Giant Striped Mondo Grass also offers seasonal appeal, with delicate lavender flower spikes emerging in summer followed by black berries, enhancing its ornamental value. Widely appreciated for its low maintenance requirements and resilience, Ophiopogon jaburan ‘Vittatus’ has gained recognition among landscape professionals for its combination of architectural foliage and adaptability.
