Description
Microbiota decussata, commonly known as Siberian Cypress, is a low-growing, evergreen conifer native to the mountainous regions of Siberia. This distinctive groundcover shrub is valued for its dense, feathery foliage that forms a soft, moss-like carpet in shades of bright green to bronze, providing year-round interest in the landscape. It exhibits a graceful, spreading habit and is highly tolerant of cold climates, drought, and poor soils, making it an excellent choice for erosion control, rock gardens, and as a natural mulch alternative. The plant’s unique fan-shaped branches and scale-like leaves set it apart from other conifers, contributing to its delicate texture and appealing form. Siberian Cypress thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires minimal maintenance once established. Its historical use in traditional Siberian landscapes highlights its resilience and adaptability, while its ornamental qualities have led to its inclusion in various specialty garden collections.
