Description
Microbiota decussata ‘Prides’ Celtic Pride® Siberian Cypress is a distinctive evergreen groundcover native to the mountainous regions of Siberia, prized for its dense, feathery foliage that forms a low, spreading mat ideal for erosion control and ornamental use. This cultivar is renowned for its vibrant, bright green needles that turn a rich bronze or coppery hue in winter, providing year-round interest and texture in the landscape. Its fine, scale-like leaves grow in a layered, crosswise pattern giving rise to its species name “decussata,” which means “in the form of an X” or “crosswise,” highlighting its unique branch arrangement. Slow-growing and hardy in a wide range of climates, this plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils, making it a versatile choice for rock gardens, borders, or as a ground-hugging accent beneath taller shrubs. Celtic Pride® is valued for its compact growth habit and excellent disease resistance, making it easier to maintain than many other conifers. While primarily appreciated for its ornamental qualities, its ability to stabilize soil and withstand harsh weather conditions reflects its rugged Siberian origins.
