Description
Juniperus × pfitzeriana ‘Sea Green’, commonly known as Sea Green Chinese Juniper, is a vigorous and dense evergreen shrub prized for its soft, fine-textured foliage that displays a vibrant sea-green color throughout the year. This hybrid juniper is a cross between Juniperus chinensis and Juniperus virginiana, developed for its hardy nature and adaptability to a wide range of soil conditions, including poor and dry sites, making it an excellent choice for erosion control, foundation plantings, and low-maintenance landscapes. Originating from hybridization efforts in Germany in the early 20th century, ‘Sea Green’ is noted for its fast growth rate and rounded, mounded habit, typically reaching 6 to 8 feet in height and width. Its resilient nature allows it to thrive in full sun and withstand urban pollution, drought, and deer browsing, while requiring minimal pruning. The plant also produces small blue-gray berries that attract birds, adding wildlife interest to gardens. ‘Sea Green’ has been recognized for its ornamental value and durability, often recommended by horticultural experts for use as a specimen plant or in mass plantings for year-round greenery.
