Description
Juniperus x pfitzeriana ‘Aurea’, commonly known as Pfitzer Juniper, is a popular evergreen shrub valued for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage that adds year-round color and texture to landscapes. This hybrid juniper is a result of a cross between Juniperus chinensis and Juniperus sabina, originating in Germany in the late 19th century. Renowned for its dense, low-growing, and spreading habit, ‘Aurea’ typically reaches 3 to 5 feet in height with a broad, mounding form, making it ideal for ground cover, foundation planting, and erosion control. The needle-like foliage transitions from bright chartreuse in spring and summer to a deeper golden hue in winter, providing multi-season interest. Pfitzer Juniper is also prized for its adaptability to various soil types, drought tolerance, and low maintenance requirements. Its resistance to deer and adaptability in USDA zones 4 through 9 have made it a staple in both residential and commercial landscapes across North America.
