Description
Juniperus sabina ‘Skandia’, commonly known as Savin Juniper, is a hardy evergreen shrub prized for its dense, low-growing, and spreading habit, making it an excellent groundcover for erosion control and foundation planting. Originating from the Eurasian species Juniperus sabina, this cultivar features scale-like, aromatic dark green foliage that can take on a bluish tint in colder months, adding year-round interest to landscapes. Known for its exceptional drought tolerance and adaptability to poor soil conditions, ‘Skandia’ Savin Juniper is a versatile choice for rock gardens, slopes, and xeriscaping. Its slow growth rate and resistance to deer browsing enhance its appeal for low-maintenance gardens. Historically, Savin Juniper has been valued for its medicinal properties in traditional herbal practices, although this cultivar is primarily used ornamentally today. Its reliable performance and attractive form have earned it recognition among landscapers and gardeners seeking durable, evergreen groundcovers.
