Description
Juniperus horizontalis ‘Mother Lode’, commonly known as Creeping Juniper, is a striking evergreen groundcover valued for its dense, low-growing habit and vibrant golden-yellow foliage that intensifies in color during colder months. Native to North America, this cultivar is prized for its exceptional adaptability to a range of soil types and its remarkable drought tolerance, making it an excellent choice for erosion control and landscape accents on slopes or rocky terrains. ‘Mother Lode’ typically spreads widely, forming a carpet-like mat that can reach up to 6-12 inches in height and several feet in width, providing year-round visual interest and texture. Its needle-like leaves are soft to the touch and emit a pleasant aroma when crushed. This cultivar’s unique golden hue sets it apart from other junipers, offering bright contrast in mixed borders or xeriscape designs. Recognized by horticultural societies for its ornamental value and reliability, Juniperus horizontalis ‘Mother Lode’ remains a popular selection for gardeners seeking low-maintenance, evergreen groundcover with a splash of vibrant color.
