Description
Juniperus chinensis ‘San Jose’, commonly known as San Jose Chinese Juniper, is a popular evergreen conifer prized for its dense, compact growth habit and vibrant, rich green foliage that turns a striking bronze in winter. Originating from China and parts of East Asia, this cultivar is valued for its adaptability to a wide range of landscape uses, including foundation plantings, hedges, and rock gardens. It exhibits excellent drought tolerance and thrives in full sun with well-drained soil, making it a low-maintenance choice for both residential and commercial landscapes. The San Jose Chinese Juniper’s fine, scale-like needles create a soft texture and the plant’s naturally pyramidal form adds year-round structural interest. Its durability and ornamental appeal have made it a landscape staple, especially in temperate climates. Recognized for its versatility and resilience, this juniper is often recommended by extension services such as NC State and plant societies for sustainable landscaping.
