Description
Juncus effusus ‘Big Twister’, commonly known as Corkscrew Rush, is a striking ornamental rush valued for its unique spiraled, corkscrew-like stems that add dynamic texture and architectural interest to gardens and landscapes. This cultivar of the common soft rush (Juncus effusus) originates from wetland habitats and is native to North America, thriving in moist to wet soils, making it an excellent choice for rain gardens, pondsides, and water features. ‘Big Twister’ is particularly noted for its vigorous growth and dramatically twisted, bright green stems that create a bold vertical accent without the typical grassy form of many rushes. Its adaptability to a variety of light conditions—from full sun to partial shade—and tolerance for standing water make it a versatile and low-maintenance perennial. This plant not only enhances naturalistic or modern garden designs but also supports wildlife by providing shelter and nesting materials. ‘Big Twister’ has gained recognition among landscape professionals and garden enthusiasts for its ornamental appeal and functional use in wetland restoration and erosion control projects.
