Description
Hesperocyparis macrocarpa ‘Donard Gold’ (Monterey Cypress) is an upright-branching evergreen conifer distinguished by its dazzling two-toned foliage of chartreuse new growth edging bright lemon-yellow inner foliage, set off by cinnamon-colored bark and a subtle citrus scent when the foliage is crushed. Developed in Ireland as a narrower, more refined form of the larger Monterey Cypress species, it retains the rugged seaside heritage of its origin while offering a more manageable size and formal screen or hedge potential. It typically grows to around 15 ft tall and 8 ft wide in 10 years, ultimately reaching up to 30 ft tall under favorable conditions.
