Description
Festuca muelleri, commonly known as Mueller’s Fescue, is a cool-season ornamental grass prized for its fine-textured, bluish-gray needles that create a soft, airy mound ideal for rock gardens, borders, and naturalistic landscapes. Native to subalpine and alpine regions of New Zealand, this species exhibits excellent drought tolerance and thrives in well-drained soils with full sun to partial shade, making it a resilient choice for xeriscaping and erosion control. Its slow-growing, clump-forming habit and subtle silver-blue foliage add year-round visual interest and contrast when paired with flowering perennials or other grasses. Mueller’s Fescue is valued for its low maintenance requirements and adaptability across various garden styles, contributing a unique textural element that enhances landscape diversity. Although not widely cited for formal awards, its distinctive coloration and reliable performance have earned it recognition among gardeners and landscape professionals seeking ornamental grasses with both aesthetic and ecological benefits.
