Description
Festuca glauca ‘Cool as Ice’ is a striking ornamental grass valued for its fine-textured, silvery-blue foliage that adds year-round color and contrast to garden landscapes. This cool-season, clump-forming fescue is known for its compact, mounded growth habit and exceptional tolerance to drought and poor soils, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance borders, rock gardens, and container plantings. Originating from the species Festuca glauca, which is native to Europe, ‘Cool as Ice’ has been selectively bred to enhance its vibrant ice-blue leaf color and tidy form, providing a modern twist on classic blue fescues. Its upright, narrow blades maintain their color even in heat, and the plant produces delicate, airy flower spikes in late spring that add subtle movement without overwhelming its neat foliage. Highly adaptable and deer-resistant, ‘Cool as Ice’ fescue thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, offering year-round interest and texture to perennial mixes and contemporary garden designs. This cultivar has gained recognition among landscapers and gardeners for its outstanding ornamental value and versatility.
