Description
Cuphea hyssopifolia ‘White Whispers’, commonly known as Mexican Heather, is a low-growing, evergreen shrub prized for its delicate, airy appearance and profusion of small white tubular flowers that bloom from spring through fall. Native to Mexico and Central America, this plant features fine, narrow foliage resembling that of hyssop, giving it a graceful texture ideal for borders, containers, and ground cover in warm climates. Its compact habit and tolerance for heat and drought make it a versatile choice for gardens and landscapes seeking year-round interest. Mexican Heather thrives in well-drained soils with full sun to partial shade and is appreciated for attracting pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds. The ‘White Whispers’ cultivar stands out for its pure white blooms, offering a softer alternative to the more common lavender or purple-flowered varieties, and its neat, mounding form that adds brightness and elegance to mixed plantings. This cultivar has been recognized for its ornamental value in warm-season landscapes, combining resilience with delicate beauty.
