Description
Cortaderia selloana, commonly known as Pampas Grass, is a striking ornamental grass native to South America, particularly Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. Renowned for its tall, feathery plumes that can reach heights of up to 10 feet, Pampas Grass adds dramatic texture and movement to landscapes. The plant features long, slender green leaves with sharp edges, forming dense clumps that provide excellent privacy screens and windbreaks. Blooming in late summer to fall, its large, silvery-white or pinkish flower plumes create a soft, elegant effect and are often used in floral arrangements. Pampas Grass thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, exhibiting remarkable drought tolerance once established. Though valued for its ornamental appeal, it has naturalized in some regions and can become invasive if not managed properly. The plant’s bold architectural form and adaptability have made it a popular choice for contemporary and coastal garden designs.
