Description
Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Fernspray Gold’, commonly known as Golden Hinoki Cypress, is a stunning evergreen conifer prized for its finely textured, fan-shaped foliage that displays vibrant golden-yellow new growth, which gradually matures to a rich green, creating a striking color contrast throughout the seasons. Native to Japan, this cultivar is a dwarf, slow-growing variety of the Hinoki Cypress species, valued for its elegant, cascading habit that forms a graceful, fern-like spray, making it an excellent choice for specimen planting, rock gardens, or as a standout accent in mixed borders. Its dense, compact form and tolerance for shade and partial sun contribute to its versatility in landscape design. Historically, Hinoki Cypress has been esteemed in Japanese culture for centuries, often used in temple construction and traditional woodworking due to its durable, aromatic wood. The ‘Fernspray Gold’ cultivar continues this legacy by offering ornamental beauty with low maintenance requirements. Recognized for its ornamental appeal, it is frequently recommended by horticultural experts for adding texture and vibrant color to garden settings.
