Description
Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Crippsii’, commonly known as Golden Hinoki Cypress, is a striking evergreen conifer prized for its rich golden-yellow foliage and compact, pyramidal form. Native to Japan, this cultivar is a variegated selection of the Hinoki Cypress, which has been cultivated for centuries and is valued for its ornamental beauty and fine-textured, fan-like foliage. The ‘Crippsii’ variety is especially noted for its vibrant golden color that intensifies in sunlight, providing year-round visual interest in gardens and landscapes. Its slow growth and dense branching make it ideal for use as a specimen plant, foundation planting, or in mixed borders. The Golden Hinoki Cypress thrives in well-drained soils with partial to full sun exposure and is highly tolerant of pruning, allowing for versatile shaping. Its unique combination of color, texture, and form has earned it recognition among gardeners and landscape professionals for adding elegance and structure to garden designs.
