Description
Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘Moonlit’, commonly known as Port Orford Cypress ‘Moonlit’, is a striking evergreen conifer celebrated for its vibrant, silvery-blue foliage that adds a luminous touch to landscapes throughout the year. Originating from the native Port Orford cedar found along the coastal regions of southern Oregon and northern California, ‘Moonlit’ is a cultivated variety selected for its dense, upright growth habit and uniquely bright needle color that contrasts beautifully with darker greenery. This cultivar is prized for its adaptability to various soil types and its resistance to common pests and diseases, making it a reliable choice for foundation plantings, specimen accents, and mixed borders. Its slow to moderate growth rate allows for manageable maintenance, and it thrives best in full sun to partial shade. The Port Orford Cypress has a rich history of use in timber for its durability and aromatic wood, but ‘Moonlit’ has gained popularity in ornamental horticulture for its exceptional foliage color and texture. Recognized for its garden merit, ‘Moonlit’ has been highlighted by several plant societies for its ornamental value and year-round interest in landscape design.
