Description
Pennisetum setaceum ‘Alba’, commonly known as White Fountain Grass, is a striking ornamental grass prized for its graceful, arching foliage and elegant, fluffy white flower spikes that create a soft, airy texture in landscape designs. Native to East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, this warm-season perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, showcasing rapid growth and drought tolerance once established. Unlike the more common purple-leaved varieties, ‘Alba’ features bright green leaves that provide a fresh, clean contrast to its pure white inflorescences, making it a versatile choice for borders, containers, and mass plantings where a light, luminous effect is desired. This cultivar adds year-round interest with its structural form, and its ornamental plumes remain attractive well into the fall, attracting birds and enhancing garden wildlife. Recognized for its ornamental value, White Fountain Grass has been widely adopted in contemporary and Mediterranean-inspired landscapes for its low maintenance and visual appeal.
