Description
Cedrus deodara, commonly known as Deodar Cedar, is a majestic evergreen conifer native to the western Himalayas, revered for its graceful, pendulous branches and soft, bluish-green needle clusters that create a striking, feathery appearance. This slow-growing tree can reach impressive heights of up to 70 to 100 feet, making it a stunning focal point in large landscapes and arboreta. Historically, the Deodar Cedar holds cultural significance in its native range, often regarded as sacred in Hindu traditions and used in timber and ornamental plantings for centuries. Its adaptability to a range of soil types and climates, combined with its drought tolerance and resistance to urban pollution, make it a popular choice for parks and large gardens. As a member of the pine family, it provides year-round greenery and excellent habitat value for wildlife. Notably, the Deodar Cedar has been recognized for its ornamental value and durability in landscape design, earning a place among the most admired conifer species in temperate regions.
