Description
Cedrus atlantica ‘Fastigiata’, commonly known as the Fastigiate Atlas Cedar, is a striking conifer valued for its unique upright, columnar growth habit that adds architectural interest to landscapes. Originating from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria, the species was introduced to cultivation in the 19th century and this cultivar was selected for its narrow, fastigiate form, which contrasts with the broader, spreading habit of typical Atlas Cedars. The silvery-blue needles provide year-round color and textural appeal, making it an excellent focal point or privacy screen in gardens. Its tolerance to a variety of soil types and resistance to drought once established make it a versatile and low-maintenance choice for temperate climates. This cultivar’s distinctive shape and evergreen foliage have earned it recognition in ornamental horticulture circles, making it a favored specimen tree in both public and private landscape designs.
