Description
Carex texensis, commonly known as Texas Sedge, is a distinctive ornamental grass native to the south-central United States, particularly Texas. This warm-season sedge is prized for its fine-textured, narrow blue-green foliage that forms dense, low-growing clumps, making it an excellent choice for groundcover, erosion control, and naturalistic landscapes. Unlike traditional turf grasses, Texas Sedge requires minimal mowing and irrigation once established, thriving in well-drained soils and tolerating both sun and partial shade. Its adaptability to drought and heat, coupled with a graceful, arching habit, lends year-round visual interest, blending seamlessly into prairie and meadow-style plantings. Texas Sedge’s unique characteristics make it a sustainable alternative to conventional lawns, promoting biodiversity and reducing maintenance costs. Recognized for its landscape versatility, Carex texensis has been highlighted by several horticultural societies for its ecological benefits and aesthetic appeal.
