Description
Carex flaccosperma, commonly known as Blue Wood Sedge, is a shade-loving ornamental grass native to the woodlands of the southeastern United States. It is prized for its long, arching, blue-green foliage that forms dense clumps, providing year-round interest and excellent ground cover in shady garden areas. Unlike many sedges, Blue Wood Sedge thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is highly tolerant of shade, making it an ideal choice for underplanting in woodland gardens or alongside streams and ponds. This species is valued for its low maintenance requirements, deer resistance, and ability to prevent soil erosion. Its fine texture and unique blue hue add a soft, graceful element to mixed perennial beds and shade gardens. Recognized by horticulturists for its ornamental appeal and adaptability, Carex flaccosperma has become a favored plant for sustainable landscaping and naturalistic garden designs.
