Description
Bambusa oldhamii, commonly known as Timber Bamboo, is a fast-growing, clumping bamboo species prized for its tall, straight culms that can reach heights of up to 50 feet. Native to Taiwan, this bamboo is renowned for its thick-walled, bright green canes that provide both structural strength and an elegant aesthetic, making it a popular choice for privacy screens, windbreaks, and ornamental plantings in temperate and subtropical gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, fertile soils, exhibiting excellent drought tolerance once established. Unique among bamboos, Bambusa oldhamii combines rapid vertical growth with a non-invasive, clumping root system, which simplifies containment and maintenance compared to running bamboos. Its lush, lance-shaped leaves add a tropical texture to landscapes, and its durability has led to its use in traditional crafts and construction in its native regions. Recognized for its versatility and ornamental appeal, Timber Bamboo remains a favored selection by landscape professionals and garden enthusiasts alike.
