Description
Stripping outer jacketing on large commercial wire bundles consumes hours of expensive electrical labor. The Southwire Maxis Grips Double Lock system provides pulling heads for 1/0 through 750 MCM conductors without cutting insulation. Pulling capacity tops out at 20000 lb. Mixing different wire sizes inside a single grip group causes uneven mesh bite and strand release.
The harness uses high-tensile galvanized aircraft-grade steel wire braided into dual-locking variable mesh sleeves. Copper compression ferrules bond each wire grip to a flexible steel pulling eye cable. The pulling head incorporates CNC-machined alloy steel with staggered clevis attachment points, holding bundle diameter narrow to clear 2-inch through 4-inch conduit elbows without binding against raceway walls under high mechanical tension.
Double Lock Pulling Grip Platform
Staggered pulling eyes offset conductor heads to minimize overall bundle diameter through tight raceway elbows. Flexible double-braided galvanized steel mesh grips wire jackets firm without stripping copper insulation.
- Covers commercial conductor wire sizes from 1/0 AWG up to 750 MCM.
- Dual-lock grip mechanism holds both conductor core and outer insulation jacket secure.
- Staggered pulling head offsets cable heads to clear standard commercial conduit elbows.
- High-tensile galvanized aircraft cable withstands 20000 lb total harness pulling tension.
- Eliminates stripping cable insulation and taping pulling heads before wire pulls.
- Quick-connect clevis pin connects direct to pulling swivels in under two minutes.
- Heavy-duty ballistic nylon carrying bag protects wire mesh sleeves from jobsite damage.
Proof Pull Tension Bench Telemetry
Tension load fixtures exert 20000 lb total line pull across the staggered harness with 750 MCM copper conductors. Conductor slippage inside the wire mesh measures under 0.055 inches under maximum tension. Grip head steel temperature remains ambient during unbroken pulling tests with zero mesh strand necking. Destructive pull testing achieves 24800 lb before individual wire mesh strand failure. Acoustic release sound registers at 70 dBA during clevis pin disconnect.
Rigging Bounds Fleet Service Directives
Never mix different conductor wire gauges within the same pulling grip group head. Uneven wire diameters cause the mesh to grip larger cables first, dropping smaller conductors down the raceway.
- Inspect wire mesh sleeves for kinked strands or broken wires before every pull.
- Clean pulling soap residue and dirt out of the wire mesh weave using clean cold water.
- Smooth out crushed wire mesh sleeves by hand to restore open diameter before storage.
