Description
Clematis integrifolia ‘Blue Ribbons,’ commonly known as Blue Ribbons bush clematis, is a distinctive, herbaceous, non-climbing clematis valued for its unique vase-shaped, nodding flowers in a striking steel-blue to violet-blue hue. Unlike many other clematis species that are vigorous climbers, C. integrifolia grows as a compact, bushy perennial reaching about 2 to 3 feet tall, making it well-suited for borders and containers. Native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia, this species features finely divided, lance-shaped leaves and blooms profusely in late spring to early summer, often reblooming sporadically throughout the growing season. Its elegant and unusual flower shape, combined with its relatively low maintenance and deer resistance, has made it a favorite among gardeners seeking clematis diversity beyond the typical vining varieties. ‘Blue Ribbons’ has been recognized for its garden performance, including its adaptability to a wide range of soil types and climates, and has earned accolades from various horticultural societies for its ornamental appeal and reliability.
