Description
Abutilon x hybridum, commonly known as Flowering Maple or Chinese Lantern, is a versatile and ornamental shrub prized for its maple-like foliage and delicate, bell-shaped flowers that often appear in shades of white, yellow, orange, or red. The White Flowering Maple variety features pure white blossoms that beautifully contrast with its soft, green, maple-shaped leaves, providing an elegant and airy appeal in garden beds or containers. This hybrid originates from crosses within the Abutilon genus, combining traits of species native to tropical and subtropical regions, resulting in a plant that thrives in warm climates but can also be grown indoors or in cooler zones as a container specimen. Abutilon x hybridum is valued not only for its extended blooming period, often from spring through fall, but also for its adaptability to partial shade conditions and its attractiveness to pollinators such as hummingbirds and bees. Its use in landscape design is notable for adding vertical interest and delicate texture without overwhelming surrounding plants. Though primarily appreciated for its ornamental qualities, this hybrid has been recognized among gardeners and horticulturists for its reliable flowering and ease of care, making it a favored choice in both private and public garden collections.
