Description
Jatropha integerrima ‘Petite Pinkie’, commonly known as Spicy Jatropha, is a compact, tropical shrub prized for its vibrant clusters of bright pink tubular flowers that bloom profusely almost year-round in warm climates. Originating from the Caribbean and Central America, this species belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family and has been widely cultivated for its ornamental appeal and versatility in landscape design. Unlike the larger Jatropha integerrima forms, the ‘Petite Pinkie’ cultivar is distinguished by its smaller stature and more abundant flowering, making it ideal for container gardening, borders, and mass plantings. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and is drought-tolerant once established, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies, which enhances its ecological value. Developed and introduced by Monrovia, this cultivar combines tropical flair with ease of care, fitting well in USDA zones 9-11. Its continuous blooming habit and compact growth habit have made it a popular choice among gardeners seeking year-round color in warm climates.
