Description
Vinca minor ‘Bowles Variety’, commonly known as Common Periwinkle, is a vigorous evergreen groundcover prized for its glossy, dark green foliage and abundant lavender-blue, star-shaped flowers that bloom from spring through fall. Originating from Europe and widely naturalized across North America, this variety was selected for its compact growth habit and enhanced flowering compared to typical Vinca minor cultivars. Its ability to thrive in a range of soil types and tolerate shade, drought, and urban conditions makes it an excellent choice for erosion control, groundcover, and underplanting in woodland gardens. The ‘Bowles Variety’ is noted for its resilience and low maintenance requirements, providing year-round visual interest. Beyond its ornamental appeal, it has been utilized in traditional medicine and landscaping for decades, reflecting its longstanding horticultural value.
