Description
Brassica oleracea Glamour ‘Red’ is a stunning ornamental cabbage known for its vibrant, ruffled foliage that showcases deep red and purple hues with contrasting green outer leaves. Unlike edible cabbage varieties, this cultivar is prized for its decorative appeal in fall and winter gardens, adding rich color and texture when many other plants have faded. Originating from traditional brassicas cultivated in Europe, ornamental cabbages were developed in the 19th century as garden plants valued for their cold tolerance and striking appearance. The ‘Glamour Red’ variety stands out for its compact growth habit and vivid coloration that intensifies with cooler temperatures, making it an excellent choice for container displays, borders, and seasonal landscapes. Its hardy nature allows it to thrive in cooler climates, brightening gardens well into late autumn. Recognized for its ornamental value, Brassica oleracea cultivars like ‘Glamour Red’ continue to be popular selections among gardeners seeking vibrant, low-maintenance foliage plants during the colder months.
