Description
Duranta erecta ‘Alba Sky Flower’ is a striking evergreen shrub known for its dense, upright growth habit and profuse clusters of delicate white flowers that bloom from late spring through fall. Native to the tropical Americas, this cultivar is prized for its ornamental appeal, combining lush green foliage with bright white blooms that attract pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds. The plant typically reaches heights of 6 to 10 feet, making it an excellent choice for hedges, screens, or specimen planting in warm climates (USDA zones 9-11). Its tolerance for heat, drought, and poor soils, along with moderate maintenance requirements, contributes to its popularity in landscape design. Historically, Duranta erecta has been valued in tropical and subtropical gardens for its versatility and vibrant floral display. The ‘Alba Sky Flower’ variety stands out for its pure white flowers, contrasting with the more common lavender or blue-flowered forms, offering a unique, elegant alternative in the genus. This cultivar exemplifies the horticultural interest in enhancing color variation and ornamental traits within Duranta species.
