Description
Festuca mairei, commonly known as Atlas Fescue, is an ornamental grass valued for its fine-textured, arching blue-green foliage that adds a soft, flowing movement to garden landscapes. Native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, this perennial grass thrives in well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade, making it a versatile choice for borders, rock gardens, and naturalistic plantings. Its clumping growth habit remains tidy without aggressive spreading, providing low-maintenance ground cover with excellent drought tolerance once established. Atlas Fescue’s unique steel-blue coloration and upright yet gently arching blades make it a standout in garden design, complementing both formal and wild garden styles. Its adaptability and ornamental appeal have led to its recommendation by horticultural authorities such as the Missouri Botanical Garden for use in sustainable and water-wise landscapes.
