Description
Cupressocyparis leylandii ‘Murray’, commonly known as Murray Leyland Cypress, is a fast-growing evergreen conifer prized for its dense, feathery foliage and exceptional adaptability in a variety of landscape settings. Originating from a hybrid between the Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) and the Nootka false cypress (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis), this cultivar was developed to offer superior growth habits and improved disease resistance compared to traditional Leyland cypress varieties. ‘Murray’ is characterized by its vigorous upright growth, reaching significant heights rapidly, making it an ideal choice for privacy screens, windbreaks, and large hedges. Its soft, bright green needles provide year-round interest and a lush, full appearance. The cultivar’s robust nature allows it to thrive in diverse soil types and climates, particularly in USDA zones 6 through 10, with minimal maintenance. Recognized for combining both aesthetic appeal and functional use, Cupressocyparis leylandii ‘Murray’ is a preferred selection among landscape professionals for fast, reliable screening and ornamental purposes.
