Description
Cupressocyparis leylandii ‘Gold Rider’ Leyland Cypress is a fast-growing evergreen conifer valued for its striking golden-yellow foliage that provides vibrant color contrast in landscapes. This hybrid originates from a cross between Monterey cypress and Alaska cedar, developed in the mid-20th century to combine rapid growth with adaptability and disease resistance. ‘Gold Rider’ is particularly prized for its dense, upright pyramidal form, making it an excellent choice for privacy screens, windbreaks, and ornamental hedging. Its bright, gold-tipped needles retain color throughout the growing season, adding year-round visual interest. This cultivar is well-suited to a variety of soil types and thrives in full sun to partial shade, requiring minimal maintenance once established. Renowned for its robust growth habit and low susceptibility to common cypress diseases, ‘Gold Rider’ has become a popular selection among landscapers seeking a resilient and visually impactful evergreen.
