Description
Taxus x media ‘Tauntonii’, commonly known as Yew, is a popular evergreen shrub valued for its dense, dark green foliage and versatile landscape use. This hybrid yew is a cross between the English yew (Taxus baccata) and the Japanese yew (Taxus cuspidata), combining the hardiness and adaptability of both species. It features a naturally rounded, medium to large growth habit, making it an excellent choice for hedges, foundation plantings, and formal gardens. Anglojap Yew is prized for its tolerance to shade, pollution, and a variety of soil types, as well as its resistance to deer browsing, which makes it a reliable low-maintenance option in many landscapes. Its fine, needle-like leaves remain attractive year-round, and its slow to moderate growth rate allows for easy shaping and pruning. Historically, yews have been cultivated for centuries, often symbolizing longevity and used in traditional European gardens. Taxus x media ‘Tauntonii’ is appreciated by landscapers and gardeners for its durability and classic aesthetic, contributing both structure and year-round greenery to garden designs.
